1987 Toyota Corolla GT-S w/ AE111 20V 4AGE Blacktop
UPDATE:
Hello everyone. Here is an update on the car and engine since I have gotten it to run properly. First off the clutch was replaced. Prior to the replacement it was AISEN OEM like. Now I have NKK stage 1. I believe this is a better alternative to Exedy's clutch disks. If someone can confirm this, it would be great for others looking for an alternative. Thanks in advance. It is great for daily, grabs hard when I need it too. Pedal isn't stiff and won't give you hulk foot. On my previous car I had ACT, although good performance wise, it wasn't good on my leg in 1-2hour traffic. I am running 1NZFE Cops on stock ECU and harness. Please refer to the DLI thread on Club4ag's 20v forum if you are interested in an alternative way to run the engine without the distributor cap and wires. The SP-TEC distributor relocation had problems with timing since it was poorly made. Refer to my thread http://forums.club4ag.com/zerothread?id=99116. In short, it messed up my timing. RHDJapan offered replacement parts for about $150 to update the kit. I have not installed this, but it looks solid. I will be keeping this as a back-up in case there are problems with running the COPs.
Late last year I had problems with throttle response as well as misfiring with the COPs installed. My engine was throwing code for MAP, TPS, as well as ISCV. Went to the local junkyard to get a replacement for the MAP sensor. Apparently the Vacuum line was sealed. Replaced the hose as well. Reset the ECU. Idle was at 2000 but after the ECU learned, it sits at about 1100-1500. Throttle response was restored after driving about 2000 miles in it. Engine also stopped throwing code for TPS and ISCV, so I didn't have to replace those. I still had a problem with misfiring at higher revs from 5000-8000+. Took the plugs out and noticed they were auto-lites and had some build up. Replaced with 98 2JZGTE Denso plugs from Toyota and no more misfiring at high RPM. I do have a problem with oil consumption. I am running 10w40 and about 1500 miles later, it is low. I've read that this particular engine likes to eat oil. I have no oil leaks. Factory manual says 20w50, so I switched to that. Hopefully oil levels stay up there. Other than that, it is a great engine as well as car. Though not as fast, it is a blast to drive. Thanks all and happy holidays!
Just a few clips of startup, revs with open stacks, and 8k climb on freeway. Nothing too big, just using this video for reference. Engine is an AE111 20v Blacktop 4age on an A/T blacktop ECU. Car is an 87 Corolla GT-S Coupe. Nothing major. I felt like recording this on a nice sunday drive. Enjoy.
