Elle entreprend de le démasquer en se faisant passer pour la maîtresse supposée et en convoquant son mari à un rendez-vous dans ce fameux hôtel. Mais Chandebise avoue à son médecin, Finache, qu’il se détourne de madame parce qu’il souffre de « pannes » et décide d’envoyer à sa place Tournel qui, Chandebise ne le sait pas, est follement épris de sa femme. Le jeu des circonstances et des prétextes fait que tous se retrouvent à l’hôtel du Minet-Galant.
