SpaceX Falcon 9 Twilight Launch — 22 December 2017
Video and time lapse of the SpaceX Falcon 9 launch from the top of Mount Elden. It was even better than I thought it would be.

My first twilight launch was a Minotaur launch on 22 September 2005. I got hooked on that one. The Vandenberg/White Sands launches I've viewed since then have not been with perfect sun position like this. So, 12 years later...wow!
I had two cameras running time lapse and another shooting video. The exhaust plume was a lot brighter than I expected and have a lot of clipped highlights from the f/2 lens. But still had a lot to work with. If there's another one anytime soon, at least I know the exact landmark that points to Vandenberg from Flagstaff, so I can frame more exactly.
The first stage booster shows up as a bright streak behind the second stage. In the time lapse sequences, it winds up as an orange streak dropping below the main exhaust plume.
Thanks to Brian Webb and the Launch Alert newsletter for the heads-up on this! ( http://www.spacearchive.info/newsletter.htm )
