Part 1 of the 12th mystery from the Inspector Wexford mystery series from 1991. Wexford finds his authority and convictions challenged when a vicar turns up at his office enquiring about a case he investigated as a young man 30 years ago. The case involved that of Herbert Painter, who was hanged for the murder of his 90 year old employee, who was killed with an axe. Wexford was certain the man was guilty, but the vicar is convinced there has been a miscarriage of justice, and the murderer may still be at large. And there is another reason why he wants Wexford to reopen the case - his son is due to marry Painter's daughter in a few months time...
Starring George Baker, Christopher Ravenscroft, Louie Ramsey, Peter Egan, Sharon Maughan, Denis Lil, Dorothy Tutin, Suzanna Hamilton, Anna Cropper, Diane Keen, Robin Lermette, Trevor Sellers, Kristy Bruce, Amanda Waring, Maggie Jones, Jenny Quayle and Michael Turner. This is from one of my own videotapes, which I have re-edited to make as 3 episodes, which was it's original format, and to make it easier for people to sit through. Please note that as this is an old video tape, there may be some glitches, so apologies for that in advance.
By the way, if you want to see the original LWT adverts that was broadcast with this episode from 1991, the adverts for Part 1 can be found here:
