The 5th mystery in the Inspector Wexford series from 1989. Wexford and his force are faced with the search for a missing boy after he disappears from a playground. For Wexford, it looks all too similar to another case he failed to solve when a girl went missing a few years before, and is convinced that the two cases may be connected. As for DI Mike Burden, he is struggling to deal with the sudden death of his wife. He was out in the woods at the time of the boy's disappearance, but he finds himself drawn to the child's despairing mother as the case begins to affect his work and his judgment. Then he comes across a body...
Starring George Baker, Christopher Ravenscroft, Louie Ramsey, Ken Kitson, Simon Shepherd, Celia Gregory, Marion Bailey, Dave Hill, Marian McLaughlin, Lynda Rooke, Susan Bovell, Emma Smith and Noah Huntley (as Burden's son, years before he did Emmerdale). This is from one of my videos of the series, so apolgies in advance for any picture quality issues there may be. It was broadcast on October 22nd 1989, and as mentioned was the 5th mystery in the Wexford series. Although it feels as it an episode has been missed (due to Burden's wife - happily alive in the Xmas episode No Crying He Makes in 1988 - now dead), this is in order, and the creators for some reason just decided to start the 1989 series with Burden's wife already having died offscreen. Hope this explains things to viewers. Either way, this is a dark and complex mystery, and what is remarkable in watching this is that even the most seemingly insignificant mention or incident is some clue or connection with the case. So keep your eyes and ears open for this one!
