Corky Brady, a 12 year old girl with spunk who supplies her widowed father with buckwheat cakes and hushpuppies. Tends to talk to herself - played by Darlene Gillespie
Matthew Brady, the two-bit widowed sheriff of Beaumont. Courts women by singing about how they should cook buckwheat cakes for him - played by Buddy Ebsen
White Shadow -Corky's dog, who probably shouldn't eat chocolate frosting or try to mate with coyotes - played by Harvey
Uncle Dan - hermit who lives in the mountains, supplying food to various wildlife. He has the utmost faith that they'll all still get along even if someday the food runs out - played by Lloyd Corrigan
Various "Dudes" and "Kids" - villains, robbers, and "show-offs", or are they? Or maybe some are and some aren't. But they probably would have been straight shooters if only they'd had access to delicious buckwheat cakes during their formative years.
