Part 1 of 4 of the rarely shown children's TV classic. Disappointed at not being able to go home from school for Christmas, young Tolly is sent to stay with his great grandmother at the old ancestral home of Green Knowe instead. Having never met her before or seen the ancestral home, he is fascinated by his surroundings and the old stories that she has to tell him about it's past. But as he stays there, he becomes more aware that the place may very well be haunted...
Starring Alec Christie as Tolly, with Daphne Oxenford, George Malpas, Graham McGrath, James Treveleyan and Polly Maberly in her screen debut. This was an adaptation from the novel by Lucy M Boston and was broadcast on November 26th 1986 in the run up to Christmas. Apologies for the picture quality, but this is from an old video recording and the series itself has rarely been shown since it's original broadcast. It's a fascinating curio, as compared to other kids TV shows it is not action packed, but remains fascinating due to the wonderful interaction between Alec Christie and Daphne Oxenford as Tolly and his grandmother Mrs Oldknow, which is beautifully done.
