Flugplatz Oranienburg, or Werk II, was part of
the Heinkel-Flugzeugwerke Oranienburg.
The construction began in 1936 and in
1939 Werk II was put into operation.
The site was being used for the final assembly of
planes and for the testing of prototype aircraft.
Heinkel pioneered here with yet-engine
and rocket propulsion.
The world's first stealth plane,
the Heinkel Horton Ho 229, was tested here as well.
It took off for the first time on March first 1944.
In 1945 the site got destructed by air-strikes.
After the Second World War, up to 1994,
the site was being used by the Soviet-Union
as a military airfield.
The flight tower had to make way for
a distribution-center recently.
All the other buildings and the airstrip
will be destructed as well.
Except for the hangar, which will remain,
for it is a listed building.
That is, if the elements won't get hold of it.
