Part 3 of a 6 part TV mystery of Charters and Caldicott, characters that were made famous in The Lady Vanishes in 1938 by Basil Radford and Naughton Wayne, but in 1985 were played by Michael Aldridge and Robin Bailey in this period mystery.
When a young woman is found murdered in Caldicott's London flat, he and his old friend Charters attempt to solve the mystery. The woman had twice already attempted to contact Caldicott on a matter of urgency, and it later transpires she is the daughter of an old friend who died abroad a few months ago. However, this is only the beginning of the twists and turns in this case, where nothing is as it seems...
Also starring with Robin Bailey and Michael Aldridge are Caroline Blakiston, Tessa Peake Jones, Gerard Murphy, Granville Saxon, Patrick Carter, Phillip Stone, Tony Chambers, Colin Jeavons, Ivan Beavis and Hetty Baynes. The series was broadcast on January 10th 1985, and has rarely been repeated since. A langorous and gradually absorbing mystery, it gains much energy from the ever wonderful Caroline Blakiston, as well as an early appearance by Tessa Peake Jones before she found fame in Only Fools and Horses.
