The day of Holy Fire in Jerusalem
By Artiom Chernamorian
The whole Christian world celebrated the day of Holy Fire on May 04 of this year. It is hard to say how many pilgrims were in Jerusalem during those days but according to the data received from the Ministry of Tourism of Israel, more than 200.000 tourists have visited the Holy Land.
The Armenians hurried to Jerusalem from various parts of Israel in the morning to participate in one of the most beautiful ceremonies of the Christians -- the so called day of Holy Fire. Armenians had gathered in front of the Armenian patriarchate in the morning and managed to enter the Holy Sepulchure church in two groups without any obstacles. More than 3000 Armenians participated in this moving ritual.
Talking about the security measures, it must be noted that tens of thousands policemen and representatives of special services provided the security of Christians this year and many innovations had been integrated. Besides special cards with the stamp of the Patriarchate, ribbons had been distributed to the Armenians that provided a possibility to enter the Holy Sepulchre church with any difficulty. Actually, there was a little fuss during the first entry to the church but the next entrance was more successful and the procession of the Armenians leaded by the scouts reached the Holy Christian church with any accidents. Here we met hundreds of pilgrims.
Karapetyan Marine had arrived from Germany. "I wish everyone to be honest first of all with himself and keep his faith in his heart. Religious ceremonies and rituals are very important but the most important one is the inner faith in God". Gayane Muradyan from the Republic of Armenia was very excited and talked about the symbolism of the day. "It was very important and interesting for us to be on the Holy Land and participate in the Holy Resurrection day according to the old calendar. This day is very symbolic as it's the day of Holy light or Fire of Christ, day of the faith that we all have to find again by being here and start to love each other again".
Armenians from Constantinople always participate in the Christian holidays taking place in Jerusalem. We often meet Simon Erdenish here. "I'm in love with this city and would like others also to fall in love with Jerusalem. We come here as our ancestors go to Armenia, our motherland in Turkey and our homeland Armenia. We are all spread here, the Armenians from Turkey but we live on the land of our ancestors to protect it. We've been educated there where we have 32 schools and churches. Thank God we had a possibility to see the Holy Jerusalem".
At last the miracle that's hard to describe happened at around 14:15. Father Bagrat Rev. Borjekian was the first to take out the fire from the left part of the chapel, constructed on the Lord's grave. The fire was then immediately taken to the Armenian section and distributed among the Armenian believers. Afterwards, the Armenian scouts moved on to welcome the procession leaded by the Armenian Patriarch. The procession took the holy fire to the Armenian quarter, thus heralding the Easter Holiday.
