On August 16th 1962, Jeffery Allen Smith was born and spent most of his life in and around Joplin, Missouri.
Started playing around with a guitar at 12 with older Brother Greg Smith who was an inspiration and guide.
Cutting his young teeth and chops with the J.O. Macy Band.
First successful driving band, The Smith Brothers Band, starting with some Shadow Lake gigs in the early 1980's. Branching out around the area, they were in top form and out in front of up to 600+ people some nights.
Along with Terry (T-Ray) Smith , Larry Smith, Bruce Bowerman, Mike Baldwin, and Carl Doner. Bookings with Waylon Jennings, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Grass Roots and other successful recording artists firmly planted The Smith Brothers in the 4 state area as a driving force amongst the rock n roll seekers.
Meeting his hero's along the way such as Joey Mollland of Badfinger fame. Always the student aching to learn as much as they could teach.
His song writing ability has always been fueled by the impact and influence of people like The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Badfinger, Bad Company and The Raspberries.
Jeff always considered himself a nice rhythm guitar player. Yet, there are to many people who can testify that Jeff can rip a lick along with the best of them
Jeff Along with others in the area like Willie Gideon's band the Impalas along with other local musicians supported and always called each other to make sure there was plenty of live music for every occasion.
Starting a band with brother Shawn Smith, Sources. (That Shawn over the years metamorphosed into today's always popular Big Smitty Band.)
Later reforming The Smith Brothers Band, along with brothers T-Ray, Larry and Shawn Smith enjoyed a yearlong tour that took them from Hot Springs to Canada.
Later along with friends Brett Sennett (bass}, Kent Long (guitarist) along with Matt Blakenship (drummer) . started the areas popular Jailhouse who were invited to open for the likes of Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 Special and other touring bands passing thru the area.
Where ever Jeff seems to go these days people magnetically gather around to, laugh & reminisce about the days of their youth and the life long memories that stuck them all together for life.
