This melody was used by the Volga Germans to sing several different lyrics, one of which is this song, with a poetic narration of his history, of which I present here three verses.

Where the Volga stream twists
drawing his shiny silver ribbon
Our homeland we founded,
land of hills and meadows*
There our ancestors grew
virgin lands and sandy steppes
They carried joyfully the banner of their faith
the German people in peasant state.
Their language, their customs,
faithful they kept with them.
Although they also suffered,
they never forgot their way of being.
