CROW ON THE CRADLE HQ LYRICS JACKSON BROWNE DAVID LINDLEY (LIVE)
Jackson Browne and David Lindley sing "Crow On The Cradle" Then and Now and in Futures Past.
Sydney Carter is credited with writing this very old and thought-provoking folk song.
It has since been recorded by Many a Musician over the years, including Pete Seeger, Judy Collins, Jackson Browne, Graham Nash, David Lindle. It is quite Controversial as it tends to be a bit Political as it questions the exact location of the tipping point between Personal Liberty and what Government might dictate as being for The Common Good.
At the end of the day it suggests that; The People ultimately must decide what is True, Fair and Right.
Over the years people have had to decide what is acceptable when it comes to establishing a balance where Government is concerned. And so it goes today. As those who lean Left suggest that the Government should decide who will live or die when it comes to Health Care. The Right suggests that this is insane and an affront to Liberty and Freedom as Government will have the power to quietly eradicate any person and any voice simply by refusing to provide needed medical treatment to an individual regardless of which Party is in Control at any given time. The Crow on the Cradle is ultimately Death itself.
The question is who's responsibility is it to keep the "Crow From The Cradle" - The Individual? Family? Community? or Big Government? or perhaps some combination thereof? A difficult question indeed, when one factors and considers things like Motive and Agenda and Trust and Government Power over the Individual. Next comes How and Who will Pay for such requisite needed Medical Treatment? The Political Left suggests it is the right thing to do. The Political Right suggests that if you force such Government Control on the Individual that the People will surly run those responsible from their elected seats, send them packing from their elected seats and out to pasture and leave but one for a only a brief time a Lame Duck. What will our Elected Officials decide? That remains to be seen. And then the final questions. What price that decision? and ultimately Who, will deal with "The Crow on the Cradle"?
At the end of the day only Words! Words all!
Words that change America? Perhaps.
The Question on the Table: "The Crow on the Cradle"
Performend here by: Jackson Browne - David Lindley
Original Score: Sydney Carter (and Many More as Lyrics have changed like the Seasons over time.)
The sheep's in the meadow
The cow's in the corn
Now is the time for a child to be born
He'll laugh at the moon
And cry for the sun
And if it's a boy he'll carry a gun
Sang the crow on the cradle
And if it should be that this baby's a girl
Never you mind if her hair doesn't curl
With rings on her fingers
And bells on her toes
And a bomber above her wherever she goes
Sang the crow on the cradle
The crow on the cradle
The black and the white
Somebody's baby is born for a fight
The crow on the cradle
The white and the black
Somebody's baby is not coming back
Sang the crow on the cradle
Your mother and father will sweat and they'll save
To build you a coffin and dig you a grave
Hush-a-bye little one, never you weep
For we've got a toy that can put you to sleep
Sang the crow on the cradle
Bring me my gun, and I'll shoot that bird dead
That's what your mother and father once said
The crow on the cradle, what can we do
Ah, this is a thing that I'll leave up to you
Sang the crow on the cradle
Sang the crow on the cradle
