This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Mich Gerber plays the double bass as a solo instrument and has developed a unique and inimitable style for which he achieved international renown. He is passionate about the double bass because he believes in its undiscovered potential. His intention is to give this instrument an identity of its own. He is doing so by using every musical possibility and crosses the different styles of string instruments as the indian sarangi, the Persian Kamâncheh, African fiddles or the Mongolian horsehead viol.
Mich Gerber, who is currently living in Berne, plays not only the double bass, he was also a pioneer in working with the Live Sampling Looping System. Most of his pieces are instrumental. Until today he has released six studio albums and written numerous compositions for theatre and film. Furthermore, he plays on big festival stages with his band and solo in smaller clubs. He just completed the composition for the theater play 1476 – an open air play that run throughout summer 2014 in Murten (where the Murten battle took place). He just recently released an album with the music played there.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
