Esta gran balada fue originariamente lanzada en el disco recopilatorio de 1994 CrossRoad, siendo una de las 2 nuevas canciones incluidas en el mismo. La otra fue "Something for the pain". La historia detrás de la canción: Según comentó Jon en las entrevistas del box set "100.000.000 BJ fans can´t be wrong", esta canción fue escrita originariamente para la película "Romeo is bleeding" (Gary Oldman-Lena Olin; llamada en español "Doble juego"), y que luego la retiró porque no le gustó. No me quedó claro si lo que no le gustó fue la canción o la película, pero se puede pensar que fue la canción, porque añade "esta es una de las pocas veces, sino la única, en que una canción que retiramos se convirtió en uno de nuestros grandes éxitos". Además, en el DVD de "This left feels right", comentó que no fue escrita realmente como una canción de amor, sino que es un sentimiento más oscuro, posesivo y destructivo el que la anima... Sin embargo, Jon aclaró que se alegra de que los fans hayan decidido ver "el vaso medio lleno" de la lírica, el "te amaré por siempre, incluso si ya no me amas"; en lugar del "vaso medio vacío", el "te perseguiré por siempre, incluso si ya no quieres verme ni pintado porque te hice daño". El sentimiento destructivo y poco saludable, que no tiene mucho que ver con el amor, está bien representado en el video oficial de la canción. A pesar de sus equívocos orígenes, "Always" se mantuvo durante seis meses en el Top 10 de la lista Billboard, y se convirtió en uno de sus mayores éxitos.
