It is with enormous excitement and gratitude that I post a new recording by one of my all time favourite vocalists- the truly sublime Julia Fordham.
I discovered Julia by accident in early 1989 from a video clip for 'Woman of the 80's' a single from her eponymous 1988 LP. I was in love immediately! I have been so, for the past 25 years. With every album, rarity and track that i could lay my mitts on, Julia Fordham has been with my young adulthood and now my middle age. I have had the lovely opportunity to receive responses from the beautiful lady herself after sending emails to her. I could have not received more sincere and soulful replies, reiterating why the singer has meant so much to me for so long. It can be tough to handle disappointments when idols invariably do not live up to lofty expectations, but with Ms Fordham no such fear was required. She is the epitome of grace and heart. I have yet to see her live in concert, and have requested of her management that they consider coming to Australia......(please!) ):
To have a new recording by such a revered artist is always such bliss, and 'Under the Rainbow' is no exception. The very first day i could purchase the album, i did so. It is such a thing of beauty. The title track is a new composition, the one posted here, and the rest of the collection is new arrangements of some of her finest in her discography. Brilliant & fresh.
The gifts and magic of Julia Fordham just continue to emerge and dazzle me. Her singing is just other worldly - that octave range; that textured voice, that warmth; that power; that vulnerability; that sense of joie de vivre that bursts from the recordings makes her one of the most unique singer/songwriters I have ever heard.
When I try to choose one favourite track from my collection of revered singers, with some it is quite immediate; with Julia it is impossible to pick just one. When a singer spans 25 years of life, the music is so often placed around peak experiences or low points, and yet I am also able to revisit many of the lesser known or played tracks and they continue to have a freshness and timeless quality. I can only implore any folk who have not been gifted with the music of Julia Fordham, that they point their fingers asap to itunes, or amazon or a record store if one still exists in their town & discover this wondrous artist.
Long may you shine and sparkle, Julia
Thanks for the music!
