Lazar Berman (1930-2005 - Russia) studied with Alexander Goldinweiser as well as Sviatoslav Richter,Vladimir Sofronitsky and Maria Yudina. He made his formal debut in 1940 at the age of 10 playing Mozart's Piano Concerto No 25 with the Moscow Philharmonic. In 1956. Berman won a prize at the Queen Elizabeth Music Competition in Belgium and by 1958, he was performing in London and recording for Saga records. Berman made his first American tour in 1976 where his debut in New York performing Liszt's Transcendental Etudes created a sensation. Lazar Berman died in Florence Italy on February 6, 2005.
