The main character Dmitri makes an unsuccessful attempt to kill a rich tradesman - boyar Sturza. A passerby Lambu saves boyar's life. Frightened, Dmitri runs away. After 10 years, the son of Lambu drove past the village where Dmitri lived and accidentally met his daughter Nida. Having no idea whose daughter she was, he immediately fell in love. When Lambu comes to Dmitri for matchmaking, they recognized each other. Lambu tells Dmitri that boyar survived. Dmitri's daughter Nida does not love Lamb's son. She loves a poor shepherd - Yani. Lambu threatens Dmitri to ruin his life and bring him to justice. Fearing for his family, Dmitri agrees to pass off his daughter for his son Lamb.
