Every morning I go to GOSA to check the overnight recording of the Old Faithful cam. Been doing this for a long time. Never have I gone there and not been able to watch the previous night. Last night, there was a lot of activity at Yellowstone (flashlights, spotlights, vehicles, and big spotlights at various places at once) It was like something was going on like a search or some kind of big deal. Anyway, I recordedsomeof itlive, but couldn't stay awake to record it all. I fugured I would just go to GOSA this morning and check thier overnight recording to see if anything else happened after I went to sleep. For the first time EVER there is NO overnight recording. They have the daytime, but not that night. This is very unusual, as that is what they do...record the geysers and post them for people to study. So I am even more curious what was going on? I can't understand why it is not there. Anyway, here is the other part of the spotlights, vehicles and commotion going on that night (May 1)
For those interested, I found this info on ground uplift on The Yellowstone Observatory's Site "A small amount of ground uplift (~ 1 cm) has been recorded to the north of the Yellowstone Caldera on the NRWY (Norris GPS station). The uplift appears to have started early in 2016 and the apparent pattern is similar to that observed in 2013/2014. Most of the GPS stations within the caldera record slight subsidence, at a rate of ~1.5 cm/yr".....and it follows to say this is within norms (just saying what THEY said) Here is the link to GOSA if you want to verify that May 1 overnight is not there https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaqzeYjrgAHI-Q0wDN4-CuQ and here is the page at Yellowstone Observatory where I got that quote http://volcanoes.usgs.gov/vhp/updates.html#yvo
