Details have just been released of the latest Russian turbo-prop passenger plane. This colossus of the sky, the TU-114, is at present undergoing proving trials, but it is known to have a cruising speed similar to that of the TU-104 and passenger accommodation for 220. Also its cargo lift is stated to be close on 30 tons. Alexai Yakimov, the chief test pilot on the TU-114, has said that the aircraft will have a range equivalent to a non-stop flight from Moscow to Peking or New York, a distance of approximately 4,500 miles. Once operational, this aircraft will offer serious competition to the Western Nations on the international routes.
