Drone flight 784. July 24th 2018, first cruise ship on Lough Foyle this season and a vessel I have never seen before, the recently refurbished 1981 Saga Pearl II from Saga Cruises. She entered the Lough at 05.00 BST after arriving from Norway, I anticipated her leaving at high tide the same day so I made sure I was ready.
After a long wait under clouds the sky finally cleared to bright sunshine, the breeze dropped to calm conditions with just an on-shore breath, the atmosphere was very warm and pleasant. I conducted a test flight, filmed a passing fishing boat which was engulfed by sea gulls then watched the Frazer Mariner ferry pass by. When the cruise ship came into range I flew out along the sun's glitter path and began the chase, filming went very well however I noticed the camera was severely under exposing the scene, despite shooting against a bright sun with camera tilted up it still seemed too dark, shutter dropped as fast as 3000th/sec at one stage, however it soon recovered when I moved around to the sunward side.
