S."...AG, APBC motivated young players
Kiwoom infielder Kim Hye-sung (24) has declared his bid for the U.S. Major League Baseball (MLB). Kim Hye-sung met with reporters at the 2023 Magumagu Real Glove Awards on the 1st and said, "I want to develop my skills and proudly challenge (the Major League) next year. I also plan to meet with Kiwoom coach Hong Won-ki on the 4th."
What stimulated Kim is her experience in international competitions. "After playing in international competitions several times, I had a dream, and especially after playing in the Asian Games and the Asian Baseball Championship (APBC), I deepened my desire to play overseas," Kim said.
Kim Hye-sung will fill seven seasons if he finishes 2024 normally. He will be eligible to apply for posting (closed competitive bidding). As he already received exemption from military service due to his Asian Games gold medal in October, he has also eliminated obstacles to entering overseas markets.
Based on his KBO league performance this season, player A, who has been selected as the first national team in his early 20s to experience international competitions, also revealed his ambition to try MLB in the future in an exclusive interview with Sports Seoul. A professional player's dream is to play in MLB, which is the best stage, but he also embodied his dream to meet Japanese and Taiwanese players who are better than him at international competitions by developing his skills and meeting them on a bigger stage.
Another player in his early 20s who played well for the senior national team for the first time like A has also felt that he is a frog in a well. An official from B's team said, "B seemed to have been greatly stimulated after his visit to APBC. I felt a lot at the Hangzhou Asian Games, but I saw the Japanese team's training at APBC, where Japanese professional players participated, and I was very shocked that they were qualitatively different from their practice batting."
At the Hangzhou Asian Games and APBC, promising young players who dominated high schools in Korea and joined pro teams as top draft picks in the KBO League have been selected. All of them are valuable players who are growing rapidly and are loved by home fans and the club.
Young players who are said to be doing well in Korea seem to have received a new "cultural shock" through the international competitions held this year when the COVID-19 pandemic (global pandemic) ended. I have watched foreign players' matches on TV, but my impression of seeing them in person was different. I felt a gap in the training that I had not seen because it was not broadcast live, and the balls of foreign players I experienced in person were sharper and faster than I thought. The stimulation and motivation that the players who will take charge of the Korean national team for more than 10 years are a good thing for the KBO League.
If they want to further materialize their dreams, there should be many international competitions. The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) has long understood the necessity of such international competitions and is pursuing regular exchange games with Japanese professional baseball.
At the time of the APBC finals between Korea and Japan, the two presidents held a meeting at the Tokyo Dome in Japan. Here, the two decided to continue to discuss so that the Korea-Japan exchange game could take place in the future. At the meeting, KBO President Heo Gu-yeon said, "I believe that the Korea-Japan match is an important factor in revitalizing baseball every week, and let's work hard to develop Asian baseball through various international competitions and games in connection with the two countries." https://www.outlookindia.com/outlook-spotlight/2023%EB%85%84-11%EC%9B%94-%EB%A9%94%EC%9D%B4%EC%A0%80-%ED%86%A0%ED%86%A0%EC%82%AC%EC%9D%B4%ED%8A%B8-%EC%88%9C%EC%9C%84-%EC%B6%94%EC%B2%9C-%ED%86%A0%ED%86%A0-%EC%95%88%EC%A0%84%EB%86%80%EC%9D%B4%ED%84%B0-top15-news-332207
