Leonid Romanovich Kyzlasov (1924-2007) – is a famous archaeologist-orientalist, doctor of historical sciences, a distinguished professor of MSU by Mikhail Vasilyevich Lomonosov, as well as the USSR State Prize laureate.
He was born on March 24, 1924, in the village called Sinyavino. His father Roman Afanasyevich was the first worker with high education in Khakass consumer cooperative and a public person. He was repressed in 1937. His mother Khristina Vitoldovna was a teacher.
Leonid graduated from school № 1 in Abakan on June 21, 1941 and enrolled in the TSU. In September 1942, he was drafted into the Red Army. Staff sergeant Kyzlasov was wounded twice and so his family received a death notification twice.
From 1945 to 1952, he was a student and then a graduate student of the faculty of history of Lomonosov MSU. Leonid Romanovich enrolled in the University to study with the famous scientist and archaeologist Sergei Vladimirovich Kiselev. In 1953, Leonid Romanovich defended his PhD thesis. From 1950 to 1999, he led various scientific expeditions: Khakass, Kyrgyz, Tuvan, and Slavic. The list of scientific works includes more than 300 titles.
In 2007, after his death, the Council of elders of the Khakas people made an application to the Government of the Republic with a request to assign his name to the Khakas Museum. Thus, for 13 years, our Museum has been proudly bearing the name of Leonid Romanovich Kyzlasov.
