The Mob (ENG SUB, Full): BRODERICK CRAWFORD, RICHARD KILEY, ERNEST BORGNINE, NEVILLE BRAND, Charles Bronson -1951
An American police & mafia “gang” film-noir of excellent “gang” dialogues, written by the American journalist, screenwriter, actor and playwright William Bowers (the same who also wrote THE WEB in 1947, LARCENY in 1949, THE GUNFIGHTER and CONVICTED in 1950, CRY DANGER in 1951 and ASSIGNMENT-PARIS! In 1952).
The script is an adaptation based on Ferguson Findley’s 1950 novel WATERFRONT which was serialized in Collier's magazine during the summer of 1950: Ferguson Findlay (pen name of Charles Weiser Frey) was an American author of crime & suspense novels.
According to some reviews, a) “the dialogue might seem familiar in THE MOB, probably because it was copied later by other writers”, b) “William Bowers' script positively pings with the sort of dialogue you could cut a joint of beef with, with most of it spat from the mouth of the excellent Crawford. No matter what the situation, what the danger, Damico has a quip or a put down to always exude a calm and carefree menace, he literally is a sardonic miserablist who is unflappable. It's a wonderful characterisation that's helped enormously by a screenplay that contains some surprises, with a nifty plot line standing out that sees Damico hired by the mob to enact a hit on himself!”.
THE MOB was produced by the American unit manager, production supervisor and film producer Jerome S. (Jerry) Bresler. It was filmed at San Pedro and Los Angeles (California, USA) in 1951.
Directed by the American actor, screenwriter, film editor and prolific Hollywood director Robert Reese Parrish, a close collaborator of John Ford.
