Austin Dean, who received the Golden Glove for the first time as a foreign player with the LG Twins, won the honor of most votes. LG Captain Oh Ji-hwan won the shortstop category, the biggest battleground, while Doosan Bears Yang Eui-ji marked the history of the Korea Baseball Organization as the most winner in the catcher category.
Austin won the first baseman's trophy at the 2023 KBO Golden Glove Awards held at the COEX Auditorium in Seoul on Wednesday. Austin received 271 votes (93.1 percent) out of 291 valid votes, which was higher than regular season MVP Eric Peddy (267 votes, 91.8 percent), who won the pitcher award, easily beating rival Kt wiz Park Byung-ho (12 votes, 4.1 percent) and Doosan Bears Yang Seok-hwan (8 votes, 2.7 percent). It is the first time in 29 years that an LG batter won the Golden Glove in the first baseman category since Seo Yong-bin in 1994. Austin has completely quenched LG's thirst for the fourth batter throughout the season with his consistent performance.
"It's an honor to receive this award. It was impossible for me to achieve this without my coaching staff, teammates and family," Austin said in a speech on behalf of his teammate Hong Chang-ki. "I'm proud to represent LG. I'm already looking forward to next year."
Oh Ji-hwan (154 votes, 52.9 percent) of the shortstop category went to LG Oh Ji-hwan (154 votes, 52.9 percent). After fierce competition with Park Chan-ho (120 votes, 41.2 percent) of the Kia Tigers, Oh won the title for the second consecutive year. "I thank Coach Yeom Kyung-yeop for making 2023 the best year," Oh said on the podium. "Now that LG has won the title for the first time in 29 years, it is the starting point. Next year, I will achieve the combined win and enjoy the dynastic era."
Doosan's Yang Eui-ji (214 votes, 73.5%) beat LG's Park Dong-won (63 votes, 21.6%) and received the Golden Glove in the catcher category, becoming the most winner (2014-16, 2018-20, 2022-23) in the catcher category beyond Kim Dong-soo (7 times). Yang Eui-ji, who also won the designated hitter category once for the NC Dinos in 2021, is one shy of Doosan manager Lee Seung-yeop's record of the most 10 times in his career.
Noh Si-hwan (Hanwha Eagles), who swept 245 votes (84.2 percent), also received a Golden Glove for the first time in her career. He had an overwhelming gap with third baseman candidates LG Moon Bo-kyung (22 votes, 7.6 percent) and SSG Landers Choi Jeong (16 votes, 5.5 percent).
Kiwoom Heroes' Kim Hye-sung (259 votes, 89.0%) was named the winner of the second baseman category for the second consecutive year.
The outfielder category went to LG Hong Chang-ki (258 votes, 88.7%), Samsung Lions Koo Ja-wook (185 votes, 63.6%) and NC Park Kun-woo (139 votes, 47.8%), while the designated hitter category was won by Son Ah-seop (255 votes, 87.6%). https://www.outlookindia.com/outlook-spotlight/2023%EB%85%84-12%EC%9B%94-%EB%A8%B9%ED%8A%80%EA%B2%80%EC%A6%9D-%EC%95%88%EC%A0%84%EB%86%80%EC%9D%B4%ED%84%B0-%ED%86%A0%ED%86%A0%EC%82%AC%EC%9D%B4%ED%8A%B8-%EC%88%9C%EC%9C%84-%EC%B6%94%EC%B2%9C-top15-news-334143
