According to records, on April 28, 1887, Monsieur Fossier, editor-in-chief of the Paris "Bicycle" (Le Vélocipède) magazine, launched the first organized racing competition. [3] The total length of the race is 2 kilometers (1.2 miles), starting from the Northwest Bridge (Neuilly Bridge) and ending in the Bois de Boulogne (Bois de Boulogne). The race was won by Georges Bouton of De Dieng Bouton, but as he was the only competitor present, there was some debate as to whether it counted as a race.
