A team from the Institute of Architecture, Construction and Design of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov, led by the head of the Architecture and Design Department Khazret Guketlov, took part in a large-scale architectural hackathon in Moscow. Together with young specialists and students from leading universities in the country, they worked on projects for the restoration and development of the territories of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.
This professional forum became a platform for generating innovative ideas and practical solutions that will help in the rapid revival of the infrastructure of the new subjects of the Russian Federation. Participation in such a significant event confirms the high level of training of KBSU architecture students and their contribution to solving important state problems.
"Our republic, as part of the all-Russian support campaign, provides comprehensive assistance to the new regions that have become part of Russia," Khazret Guketlov told KBP. "The assistance includes humanitarian support, infrastructure restoration, medical care, as well as the work of specialists to restore territories that, in addition to being damaged as a result of long-term military actions, did not receive sufficient financial support before joining Russia. Therefore, today, along with restoration, the primary task is to create comfortable living conditions in these regions. These tasks are reflected in the national project programs and are an important component of the national policy outlined by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Taking this task into account, the National Center "Russia" and the government of the Donetsk People's Republic have developed a number of areas in the implementation of which young architects of our country could help. For this purpose, a hackathon was organized, in which more than 70 young architects and students of architectural universities from all over the country took part, including us. Our students have already worked on projects for Lugansk, and received high marks." The team included eight students: Astemir Sokurov, Asker Tanashev, Asker Tutov, Darina Khezeva, Amir Kanchukoev, Disana Khezeva, Temirlan Adzhiev, Adelina Mamresheva.
The three-day hackathon was held in Moscow at the site of the National Center "Russia". The theme of the event was "Cultural code of historical regions through park environment". The organizers set the teams the task of creating modern, functional solutions for public spaces. The focus was on: Patriot Park in the DPR, the city park of Molodogvardeysk (LPR), the Melitopol city park of culture and recreation named after Maxim Gorky. Our architects worked on the latter, proposing a concept that combines the historical heritage of the city with a comfortable environment for residents.
"Our team worked on a project to reconstruct the park-boulevard on Suvorov Street in Genichesk," said third-year student Darina Khezeva. – Since Genichesk is a coastal town with old architecture, we tried to preserve the atmosphere of the “old town”, and also to connect the project with the sea. In addition, a typical element of the urban landscape here at one time were drying barges. Therefore, in our plan, we allocated a certain place to the theme of shipping. We started with a general analysis of the city territory, the movement of pedestrians and vehicles in our park-boulevard. We collected conceptual photos, historical, geographical information, combined it all and came to a common design code for the object. We decided to preserve the old brickwork, restore the arches, which were also made of old masonry. In the work, we used wave-like forms (due to the connection with the sea), and some small architectural forms had the appearance of barges. The central point of our code was a weather vane. Those places use their own names for the cardinal directions, and we used these names when designating the functional zones of the object - the entrance group with a cafe, a children's area, a “quiet” zone for walking with flower beds. We paid special attention to the plantings: sea salt, which has a pinkish color, was mined in Genichesk, so we used pink plants in the flower beds. As a result, we came up with a project called "Wind Arches", where the arches symbolize the old city, the winds - the cardinal directions."
The event was concluded by a panel discussion with the participation of the project customer - the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin, the governor of Sakhalin and the rector of the Moscow Architectural Institute. The best developments of the participants can be implemented in the coming years, becoming part of a large-scale program for the development of regions.
The organizers highly appreciated the level of training of our students. Experts noted that the participants from Kabardino-Balkaria demonstrated high professionalism, in no way inferior to their colleagues from other regions, and in some respects even surpassed them.
"We would like to thank the management of the institute for the opportunity to participate, the organizers and curators - for helping us and guiding us," the students noted.
