To make the right choice, pay attention to the main characteristics and tips.
Type of cleaning.
Dry cleaning is done by all robot vacuum cleaners. The combined effect of moving brushes and a suction jet of air results in a better result than can be obtained with a conventional vacuum cleaner.
Wet cleaning is usually done with a moistened cloth attached to a moving sole. Wet cleaning is provided by robot polishers.
Modes of operation.
There are three variants of robot vacuum cleaners on sale:
• for dry cleaning;
• combined — for both dry and wet cleaning;
• cleaning vacuum cleaners — polishers.
You should not expect that combined models of robot vacuum cleaners will be able to carry out a full wet cleaning, even if you buy expensive equipment. It will not cope with serious contamination, rather, it will smear the stains. Wet cleaning in this case consists in wiping a clean floor.
Installation on the charger.
Manufacturers recommend keeping robot vacuum cleaners on a connected dock station at all times. This will allow:
A) keep the device in a ready-to-clean condition;
B) protect the battery from additional wear;
C) use scheduled cleaning.
Depending on the model of the robot, the docking station may vary in size. Therefore, the most optimal place will be some corner in the house where the vacuum cleaner will not interfere with family members and at the same time at any second will have a free departure for cleaning the room, for example, under the dining room or desk. Some people think that it would be convenient to place it under the bed, and therefore choose a device with the most compact charging base. In fact, the most advanced vacuum cleaners have the most oversized docking stations - now they are even able to independently clean the vacuum cleaner from garbage after each cleaning, further minimizing user interference in the operation of the device.
Type of sensors.
optical sensors — to carefully avoid obstacles and calculate the distance traveled;
dirt sensors — for automatic adjustment of suction power and greater thoroughness of washing;
ultrasonic — for recognition of doorways and spaces under furniture;
infrared (level sensors) — for estimating distance and height, steps;
laser rangefinder (lidar) — for better orientation in space and drawing up a virtual map of the room;
tipping sensors — thanks to them, the vacuum cleaner will turn off and will not consume a charge.
Fine filter.
The fine filter in the vacuum cleaner traps fine dust, preventing it from getting back into the room with the flow of outgoing air. This characteristic is especially important if one of the family members is prone to allergies.
The volume of the dust container.
The volume of the dust collection container for different models ranges from 50 ml to 1 liter. Usually this value is directly related to the cleaning area on a full charge. A dust collector with a capacity of 200-300 ml is enough for a room of up to 40 m2. In order to clean an apartment with an area of 40 to 80 m2 in one cycle, a more spacious container is required – from 300 to 500 ml. If you have to clean an area of over 80 m2, and you do not want to periodically empty the dust collector, choose a robot with a capacity of 0.5 liters.
