Part 3 of 6 of the acclaimed TV period drama on the life of Henry VIII, told through the lives of his six wives.
Episode 3: Jane Seymour. The quiet, reserved Jane Seymour catches the eye of the King Henry VIII, whose personality contrasts greatly with his wife Anne Boleyn. Jane oversees the deposing and execution of Anne on charges of adultery, but is reluctant to committ herself to Henry. However, eventually they marry, and finally it seems that the union will be a happy one. Jane is a calming influence on Henry, urging him to welcome his daughter Mary back into the court after years of banishment. But Henry's break from Rome and his efforts to establish the Reformation and himself as the Supreme Head of the Church brings conflict, while Jane's desire to provide Henry with a son finally bears fruit, but with tragic results...
Stars Anne Stallybrass, Keith Michell, Wolfe Morris,Bernard Hepton, Patrick Troughton, Alison Fraser, Basil Dignam, Sheila Burrell, Jo Kendall, William Abney, Louis Hasler, Howard Black, Dorothy Lang, Daniel Moynihan, John Ronane, and Gillian Bailey (who would find fame soon after in kids show Here Comes The Double Deckers). This was recently repeated on BBC4, but ironically this is from my own collection, found in a charity shop a few months back. I had hoped to upload the series in full, but the episodes take a fair time to upload, so I will be uploading the other 3 episodes next week (just in case you are curious as to what happens next). Anne Stallybrass gives a lovely performance in a role that might of been challenging to many due to her character's lack of faults, and I was sad to learn that she had passed away in 2021. Meanwhile Keith Michell features more strongly in this episode, and is far more interesting when showing Henry's more tyrannical side than he is when it comes to the "light hearted" moments - which is unusual as he was so superb as the dapper thief Dennis Santon in Murder, She Wrote.
