In what proves to be the last case for Inspector Reg Wexford, a teenage girl disappears and a search is organised for her. However, days later she returns unharmed, but with a very strange tale to tell. Then another teenage girl vanishes, with exactly the same result. But when a old paedophile is released from prison and returns to the area to live with his daughter a day earlier than expected, just as a young child disappears that night from her bedroom, all hell breaks loose in the community. As Wexford and the force struggle to keep a hold on things, is it really as simple as it looks, or is something far stranger going on in Kingsmarkham?
Starring George Baker, Christopher Ravenscroft, Sasha Mitchell, Simon Shepherd, Clare Holman, Louie Ramsey, Bryan Pringle, Sian Webber, Russell Mabey, Annette Bentley, Stacey Hart, Matthew Mills, Ian Bartholomew, Susie Baxter, Carol Harvey, Charon Bourke, Sarah Badel, Eve Bland, Ray Trickett, Rebecca Manley, Diane Keen, Nick Robinson, Elliot Henderson-Boyle and Scarlett Jenkins. This was the last ever Inspector Wexford mystery ever made and the last one I hadn't got in my collection on here. This is from a recording from when it was recently repeated on ITV3, so apologies in advance for any glitches there may be. This episode signalled an end of an era for the series after 13 years, ending in the same year as Inspector Morse in 2000 (having started with Morse in 1987). It's a somewhat downbeat mystery to end on, and ironically like with all my uploads today it involves someone coming out of prison (I didn't plan it this way - honest!). But it is rarely ever repeated and certainly hard to find online. And it still remains an intriguing mystery for Wexford, who at least has a happier fate than Morse in this episode. Please note that this does contain swearing, some violence - and Wexford's daughter Sylvia. Well, you can't have everything...
