Forester Indefatigable French Movie Mini Series The Hornblower series is based upon books and stories by C.S. Forester.   When the series came out we were in Hawaii. It would come on late in the evening, but I could not miss any episode.  It was being shown on A&E network.  Which meant I had to endure more boring TV commercials than any human should have to.  This is one of my favorite mini series. Horatio Hornblower begins his naval career, but a deadly feud with a despicable mate is causing complications.   Midshipman Horatio Hornblower joins the British fleet just as the French Revolution is about to change European history.   But he has worries closer to home as he incurs the wrath of a shipmate named Simpson, a bully who everyone else avoids and placates.   Events lead to a duel, but one of Hornblower's mates takes his place and is killed.   At war with France, Hornblower and Simpson are assigned different ships, but are reunited when Simpson's ship is sunk.   Events lead to another duel with different results. 𝐓𝐨 𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐈 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡: 👑𝙈𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟑👑 Stars:   Ioan Gruffudd, Robert Lindsay, Dorian Healy   and many other fine actors.    A bit of movie trivia. 01:  One of the ships used for the film was "The Grand Turk" which is a working replica of a 1790s man-o-war that makes yearly trips throughout Europe and winters in the city of Whitby, England. It was specially built for 'Hornblower', and painted black and buff on one side, and black and red on the other, so that it could double as a British or French ship, depending on the angle it was filmed from.  02:  Ioan Gruffudd (Mr. Midshipman Horatio Hornblower), playing a 17 year old at the films start was 25 at the time of filming.  03:  The actual Indefatigable of this time was a 44-gun 5th rate. Originally built as a 64-gun 2-deck 3rd rate in 1785, she was already anachronistic because the French were building 74-gun 3rd rates. She was never commissioned at that time. In 1794 she was modified to her role as a heavy frigate. Indefatigable was commissioned by Captain Sir Edward Pelew in December, 1794. He would command her until 1799. Note: The career of Captain Sir Edward Pelew reads as if he was the role model for Horatio Hornblower.
