My notes This Hamlet is presented in modern dress and with some modern references in the stage business. The text, from my reckoning, is cut very little. End notes say the cutting is as performed on the New York stage with Jude Law. The play within the play has a full presentation and to good effect. The changes of gender in role adds some interesting notes. But Maxine Peake is referenced as a man, while Polonia has the female appellation. Women playing Hamlet is not new in theatre but rare. The other one I recall is Dame Edith Evans, The wiki biography on Maxine Peake is extensive worth seeking out. Royal Exchange Theatre from Manchester is new to my collection. It was received in DVD form at my library this year. It is well worth acquiring for new actors and directors and broadens the scope of theatre.
