An important biopic biography of the Cretan painter ''El Greco'' -Dominikos Theotokopoulos (1541-1614), focused on the case of a controversial altarpiece painting and a love story that brought him to the court of Spanish Inquisition. Written by the British screenwriter Guy Elmes and the Italian screenwriters and film directors Luciano Salce & Massimo Franciosa (dialogue), Juan García Atienza & Rodrigo Rivero Balestia (story) and Luigi Magni. Produced by Alfredo Bini & Mel Ferrer (Melchor Gastón Ferrer), a great American actor of Catalan-Irish descent and of French & Catholic education. Directed by the Italian actor, producer and director Luciano Salce (also known as Pilantra). Music by Ennio Morricone. FILMED IN ROME, MADRID AND TOLEDO (at the Cathedral of St. Mary & the church of Santo Domingo el Antiguo) where 15 of El Greco's paintings are kept.
