The popular Dr Kilmore (Jim Dale) is sacked after being discovered in a compromising position on the roof of the nurses' home.
The patients (Frankie Howerd, Sid James, Bernard Bresslaw and Charles Hawtrey) are determined not to lose him, and so take on the might of the "cutting" Dr Tinkle (Kenneth Williams) and the domineering Matron (Hattie Jacques).
Barbara Windsor and a bevy of pretty girls as the nursing staff round out the cast in this chaotic Carry-on medical movie.
Carry On Doctor was the first medical theme–based Carry On film for eight years, and was the first of two Carry On films to star the comedian Frankie Howerd.
It was also supposed to be the last film of the series according to Peter Rogers.
Joan Sims was originally asked to play the part of "Matron" after her earlier success playing a similar part in Doctor in Clover, but the part eventually went to Hattie Jacques.
With the Carry On prefix still an unfavourable title among Rank producers, Rothwell initially entitled the script "Nurse Carries on Again".
