w/ Phil Silvers, Kenneth Williams, Jim Dale, Charles Hawtrey, Joan Sims
Bertram Oliphant West (Jim Dale), aka Bo West, wants to clear his unjustly smeared reputation.
He joins the Foreign Legion, with Simpson (Peter Butterworth) his manservant in tow.
But the fort they get posted to is full of eccentric legionnaires, and there is trouble brewing with the locals too.
Unbeknownst to Bo, his lady love has followed him in disguise.
Based very loosely on the P.C. Wren adventure novel Beau Geste, Peter Rogers decided to cast Phil Silvers in place of Sid James who had suffered a minor heart attack a few months before production began.
Silvers was paid a fee of £40,000 in total for doing the picture, the highest of any actor in the history of the Carry On series.
